"At its height in 1944, the Esterwegen concentration camp housed over two thousand political prisoners from occupied Europe. Among them was a small band of Belgian Freemasons who, by chance or providence, found themselves assigned to the same barrack. In the midst of these terrible conditions, they came together to form a secret Masonic Lodge Liberté chérie." -- back cover

“After the spiritual awakening following the Transmission of Light in the First Degree, the stimulation of the “dew” that animates the soul in the Second Degree, followed by the “Dark Night of the Soul” and the mystic resurrection in the Third Degree, the Mason is now perfected. However, without understanding the 25th Signpost, he is without a guide: “The Grand Master is dead, the Temple is not complete, and we have not found the Lost Word.” Like the Royal Arch Degree, this book completes the journey, and understanding the symbolism of the Third Degree completes this remarkable transformation.“ — back cover

"Coach Nagy investigates over three hundred years of Craft documents to reveal hidden treasures of Light associated with the Masonic quest for perfection... Through this work, Nagy takes you through a series of deep Masonic rabbit holes, tracking down the history of "The Perfect Ashlar," it's true meaning, and the impact its meaning will have on future generations of Masons." -- back cover

"Freemasonry is defined in English masonic ritual as 'a peculiar system of morality, veiled in allegory and illustrated by symbols' -- but what does it all mean? This three-part study traces the definition back to the work of William Preston (1742-1818). It shows how Preston, using Aristotle as his starting-point, argued that Freemasonry teaches a philosophical approach to virtue, which it expresses allegorically through the story of the building of King Solomon's Temple. Preston's view proved decisive in shaping the ritual approved for use in 1816 by the United Grand Lodge of England. Almost all English lodges, and many others throughout the world, still use a ritual derived from this one, and, perhaps without realising it, continue to pay silent tribute to Preston in their work." -- back cover

The Secular Enlightenment is a panoramic account of the radical ways that life began to change for ordinary people in the age of Locke, Voltaire, and Rousseau. The secular-minded pursued their own temporal and commercial well-being without concern for the life hereafter, regarding their successes as the rewards for their actions, their failures as the result of blind economic forces. The Secular Enlightenment demonstrates how secular values and pursuits took hold of eighteenth-century Europe, spilled into the American colonies, and left their lasting imprint on the Western world for generations to come. -- Amazon description
