MOST WORSHIPFUL GRAND MASTER 2023 - 2024
M.W. Bro. Mason Jardine
Most Worshipful Brother Mason Jardine was admitted into Freemasonry on February 2, 1984, in Prince Arthur Lodge #105 GRM, now dark, and was passed March 1 and raised April 5. He served as WM of that lodge in 1988 and affiliated with Russell Lodge #62 in 1989. In this small rural Lodge of less than 20 members he has been Worshipful Master nine times (1995, 1996, 2006, 2007, 2012, 2013, 2014-15, and 2015-16) and Secretary even more. He has twice held the office of District Deputy Grand Master, (5th Dist. 1988-9, and Parkland Dist. 2016-2017) and was Junior Grand Steward in 1995-6. While being a member of the Board of General Purposes (2011-2016; 2017-2018), he was Chair of the Jurisprudence and Education Committees. He delivered the JRC Evans Memorial Lecture for Manitoba in 1993 and is frequently called upon as a guest speaker. He was elected and installed Junior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba in 2019, Senior Grand Warden in 2020, and Deputy Grand Master in 2022.
He restricts himself to very few concordant bodies: Royal Arch (Orient Chapter #13, G.R.S., Past Dist. Supt.), Cryptic Rite (Brandon Council #10, Past G.I.G.), Allied Masonic Degrees (Keystone Council #172, Past S.M.), and the Order of the Secret Monitor (Winnipeg Conclave #4). In addition to Russell Lodge, he belongs to the International Peace Garden Lodge and Union Historical Lodge #108 (Charter Member).
He has degrees in English Literature, Philosophy and Law, and was a lawyer running his own practice before his retirement. Since retiring, he has pursued a number of intellectual pursuits including the study of Elizabethan and Jacobean drama, including writing a book on Shakespeare, various aspects of history, and the history, philosophy and symbolism of Freemasonry. He has a lengthy resumé in amateur theatre as an actor and director and was a member of a singing group for over ten years.
He is known for being unconventional, for thinking outside of the box and challenging the pat answer. In all things, creativity is his way of life, whether writing, making music, painting or drawing, cooking, or trying to find answers to problems.
He has been married since 1977 to Brenda Pruden, with three children, including son Simon who is a member of Beaver Ionic Lodge #25.
